Wedding Favours

Wedding favours originated over four centuries ago in Italy. Known as Bomboniere they traditionally used to be 5 sugared almonds, representing health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life. These were presented to the weddings guests as an appreciation for helping them celebrate their special day. Now more commonly known as wedding favours, this is a tradition that has been adopted at most weddings in the UK. Whilst some couples still opt for the traditional 5 almonds, or more commonly 5 chocolate dragees captured in a decorative box or organza bag, more and more couples are looking for the unusual gift, and something personal to them and their guests.

Here is some of the more unusual, even outrageous, or funny wedding favours that we have come across.

LOVE HEARTS

Retro sweets are in trend for 2010 weddings.  Remember Love Hearts, Parma Violets and the rest?  These are still available to buy, and if you want to go the extra mile, they can be personalised for your wedding too.  New from Love Hearts are very cute Sweetie Napkin rings - we just love them.

YO YO

PHOTO FRAMES

How about placing a photo of each guest in a frame, and then using these as place cards? Would require a little work, but a great ice breaker for those guests who don't know each other, fun trying to work out who is who and very different.

LOTTERY TICKETS

confetti_love_hearts_lottery.jpgLet your guests try their luck on the weekly Lottery. Purchase the required number of Lucky Dip tickets, or choose numbers that are memorable for the day - Birthdays of the bride and groom plus the date of the wedding (although this does mean they may have to share the prize!) They can be placed in personalised envelopes.

FOR THE CHOCOLATE LOVERS

confetti_chocolate.jpgPersonalised chocolates for those of you with a sweet tooth (who doesn't have one?). Ranging from little after dinner chocolates, to personalised miniature boxes. mmmmm.
